Virginia Beach Public Library celebrates local authors from Virginia Beach and the surrounding region by featuring their published works in its collection.
In observance of Juneteenth, all VBPL branches will be closed on Friday, June 19.

Virginia Beach Public Library celebrates local authors from Virginia Beach and the surrounding region by featuring their published works in its collection.
Through writing programs, workshops, and online resources, we also support aspiring writers as they develop their skills and explore their creativity.
Virginia Beach Public Library will host the Read Local Author Festival at Central Library on November 14, 2026.
Authors who currently reside in South Hampton Roads (Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, or Suffolk), or who lived in the area when their work was written or produced, are invited to submit an interest form for participation.
This event celebrates the literary talent in our region and helps connect local authors with the community.

Virginia Beach Public Library’s Local Author Collection highlights works created by authors connected to South Hampton Roads.
For the purposes of this collection, a local author is defined as an author who currently resides in South Hampton Roads (Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, or Suffolk), or who lived in the area when their work was written or produced.
