- The Virginia Bar Association can help you access a lawyer's information, search their disciplinary records, and find a lawyer right for you.
- Talk directly with a lawyer via the Virginia Lawyer Referral Service.
- The Virginia Access to Justice Commission is a resource for finding free or low-cost legal assistance and assistance for self-represented litigants in Virginia.
Nationwide Lawyer Referral Services
- Martindale has resources for finding attorneys and law firms by location and practice area.
- The American Bar Association has information on various legal topics and links to legal help resources.
Guide to Virginia Legal Information Resources
Updated every two years, the Guide to Virginia Legal Information Resources lists key tools for people who represent themselves in court or seek other legal information; it is informational only and should not be considered legal advice.
Resources include recommended books, legal citation and court rules materials, legal dictionaries and encyclopedias, and links to legal forms. The guide also includes a brief selection of resources for Spanish speakers.

Legal Databases at VBPL
- Lexis and Westlaw are available for use at the Wahab Public Law Library.
- Lexis is available for use at other branches of VBPL, except for the Joint Use Library. Once logged on to a library computer, using your library account and PIN, you can access Lexis via the library's website under Digital Library > Research > Resources List A-Z. The link for Lexis is in the gray box at the top of the screen.
