Learn MoreDue to forecasted temperatures, two Virginia Beach Public Library branches will open as cooling centers from noon to 5 p.m., July 3-5. The Meyera E. Oberndorf Central Library, 4100 Virginia Beach Blvd. and the Princess Anne Area Library, 1444 Nimmo Parkway, will serve as cooling centers for residents and visitors. Only the lobby, restrooms and meeting rooms will be open at the Central Library; all other spaces and services will be closed. The entire building and library services will be open at the Princess Anne Area Library.

Beginning July 1, 2026, Virginia Beach Public Library is going cashless and upgrading to a fully digital payment model to make payments quicker and easier.
Provisions will be made for library cardholders with small print jobs, and additional pages can be paid for with a credit or debit card. Cash, checks and money orders will continue to be accepted at the Central Library only. Cash will also continue to be accepted for Friends of the Library purchases.

Meeting rooms are available by reservation at the library locations listed below. Rooms may be reserved during library hours up to 15 minutes before closing. Reservations are subject to the Virginia Beach Public Library Meeting Room Policy and the Facility Rental Agreement.

* The Great Neck meeting room only has tables and chairs for use. A/V equipment is currently not available at this location.
These areas are used frequently. It is recommended that meeting room space is viewed in person prior to making your reservation. Meeting area reservations may be made online.
Reservations may be made at any time within a six-month period if space is available. Groups are urged to book space as early as possible. Booking begins at 10 a.m. the first business day (Monday through Friday) of the month in April for the period July through December and the first business day (Monday through Friday) of the month in October for the period January through June.
The equipment available for public use varies with each library facility. Presentation equipment must be requested prior to the program date, preferably at the time of booking. The Meyera E. Oberndorf Central Library auditorium projection room is operated solely by library staff and no alterations to equipment setups may be made without express permission from the Meyera E. Oberndorf Central Library Administration Office.
Study rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis for quiet study or group work. Rooms may not be reserved in advance. Please see the list below for location and speak with library staff upon your arrival to obtain time in a study room. For more details, please refer to our policy.
