All Virginia Beach Public Libraries, except those serving as designated cooling centers, will be closed on Friday, July 3, and Saturday, July 4, in observance of the Independence Day holiday. Please view the City's Independence Day operating schedule for more information.

Oberndorf Central Library, 4100 Virginia Beach Blvd. and the Princess Anne Area Library, 1444 Nimmo Parkway, will serve as cooling centers for residents and visitors. Only the lobby, restrooms and meeting rooms will be open at the Central Library; all other spaces and services will be closed. The entire building and library services will be open at the Princess Anne Area Library.

Beginning July 1, 2026, Virginia Beach Public Library is going cashless and upgrading to a fully digital payment model to make payments quicker and easier.
Provisions will be made for library cardholders with small print jobs, and additional pages can be paid for with a credit or debit card. Cash, checks and money orders will continue to be accepted at the Central Library only. Cash will also continue to be accepted for Friends of the Library purchases.

A free library card or internet use account is required to use public computers. You do not need a library card to send prints through the library’s website, email, or app!
Wireless Internet access is available at all Virginia Beach Public Library locations. Wireless internet use is subject to the library's Technology Policy. Printing is available from library computers.
To connect to wireless at VBPL, select the VB_LIBRARY wireless network from your computer or device and accept the terms of use.
At the TCC/City Joint-Use Library, VBPL card holders can access the AccessTCC wireless network by choosing TCC Guests on the homepage. You will be prompted for your library card number and a password, which is your last name in all caps.
Computers with internet access are available to the public at all Virginia Beach Public Library locations. Customers are limited to four hours of computer use per day, with a session limit of two hours.
A library card or internet use account is required to use public computers. Use of the library's public computers is subject to the Technology Policy. Customers owing $50 or more in fines will be unable to access public computers.
The Laptop Lending Station allows VBPL cardholders to check out laptops with internet access for use inside the Meyera E. Oberndorf Central Library. Customers may check out and use a laptop for up to four hours per day.
A VBPL library card is required to use the Laptop Lending Station. Use of the laptop lending station is subject to the library's Technology Policy. Internet-Only Library Cards are not eligible to check out laptops. Customers who owe $50 or more in fines are not eligible to use the Laptop Lending Station.

Flatbed scanners are available to the public at the following library locations:
A valid Virginia Beach Public Library card is needed to email and save digital copies to a USB drive. Saving to a USB drive is not available at TCC/City Joint-Use Library.
There is no charge to use the readers and save digital copies.
* Please note that our multifunction printers can scan documents as well, but you will need a USB stick to perform this operation.
Send-only fax service is available at all VBPL locations except at the TCC/City of Virginia Beach Joint-Use Library.
Microfilm/Microfiche readers are available at the Meyera E. Oberndorf Central Library and the Wahab Public Law Library. A valid Virginia Beach Public Library card is needed to print, email, or save documents to a USB drive.
3D printing is currently free at Virginia Beach Public Library and available at select library branches during our open hours.
